little bits

sort of updates:

*work is totally kicking my butt lately so I leave with less than zero energy but still have been making poms! and baking like a crazy person (tonight I made chocolate banana bread and crackle cookies). at this point I have just been making the yarn poms but as soon as I get into the groove of them and get cocky and go super fast, I screw them up. Note to self: stop thinking you are the pom-master.

* as mentioned before, my hair is getting crazy long. So I have been experimenting with it. I did some side braids, etc and wore my hair like this to work today (um don't mind my crazy split ends and frizz):

(image via Ryan's iphone....i really wanted to take a picture of me winking at the camera too then i remembered how ridiculous i look when i wink and how for some reason i always have my mouth open too)

in conclusion, it took about 5 minutes to do and everyone at work was all "ooooohh" (lets just say I usually put less than zero effect into my hair on a normal basis) and everyone was like 'is this your wedding hair?"....hmmmm maybe?

*I really need to stop looking at wedding images but here is a new one I have fallen for:

(image from this wedding bee post)

um yes please. now someone needs to tell me where I can get about 20 hurricane vases for next to nothing. thank you in advance.

(image via once wed)

Do you ever start a project only to realize that you are missing one key piece? For example, you are looking to stamp the rest of your webbing bibs for your bbq wedding only to find you don't have any ink. So I made some fabric flowers and ate ice cream instead! Good Saturday!

peepin'

(image via just born store)

so I feel kinda of bad since this happens every year but I have fallen off the 'let's get fit and diet' crusade I was so happy to be on in January. If my life was successive idealistic Januarys, there would be no problem. However, whatever I try to do to prevent it, February also comes along and is always bad news. It may be a short month but it packs one hell of a lazy punch. I think I just need to find an exercise I like doing. Also, is that real? Any suggestions? And please don't give me 'Oh you'll loooove lifting weights and going to the gym' because I'm not so sure about that. Actually I'm definetly sure about that. I won't be loving anything of the kind, especially not looooving it.

Also, I am a super fan of easter candy and no I am not eight. This further puts a dent into my 'be healthier' plans. On a related note, have you guys had chocolate covered peeps yet? Not as good as I had hoped but that didn't stop me from eating two. Now I just need to find my beloved sweetarts 'chicks, ducks and bunnies' and it will officially be brought on.

chop chop

(image from here)

so i wore my hair down yesterday which i haven't been doing too often lately because my hair is getting really long (i can't sit on it or anything but it is atleast half way down my back...if it was long enough for me to sit on my 5 year old self would be so psyched! that was my main life goal at age 5...well that and to eat cheez-its for every meal). so anyways i get home, its raining and i throw my hair up because i am sick and tired of it. i look in the mirror and although i am a hot mess my hair looks perfect. what is the deal with that?!?!?! that always happens to me!!!! even if i am thinking "don't think about your hair" just the thought will make my hair look stupid if i try to style it like " hi i just threw my hair together and yes it is fabulous" it always looks like "hi i just got caught in a tornado that was localized only on my head".

so anyways, this makes me a little nervous about my hair for my wedding seeing as it will be the most focused I've been on my hair in a while. probably since the prom (and i had one hell of a hair helmet of curls that night...).

thank god my sister is doing my hair and she is totally excellent and knows how to use a brush.

also: i want bangs sooo bad...anyone else make big hair changes (or is thinking of doing so) before the wedding?

zazzled

alright friends, heres the skinny:

* ordered favor boxes (up until a couple days ago I have no idea that boxes had different names. well maybe vaguely but i didn't know anything beyond big, smaller, long. but i ordered 200 mini gable boxes so I will have approximately 50 left over. dear all friends and family, every gift you get for the next 5 years will be in a mini gable box)

(image from here)

* this reminds me, how crazy is it if I make the marshmallows for the favors myself? I have made marshmallows from scratch before a couple times and it would be way more delicious than stay puff but way cheaper than gourmet ones

* received the mini pencils in the mail. man, that vendor was beyond psyched I ordered them

* been talking to the best lady about doing some centerpiece mock ups to figure out what I like and what to invest in. i can't wait to visit her without having to worry about my car breaking down! also my aunt seems really jazzed to help me with the flower situation! yeesssssss...

*need to get some kind of game plan and rally all the people who keep offering to help me

* spent a bunch of time looking at stamps today (right?! as if this is something normal people do in their spare time) after seeing the ridiculous great stamps ms. awesome weds used. I really love these:

(both stamp designs by hallmarkeveryday on zazzle)

I love the illustrations and it would still be using our superhero theme on the invites (there's a tiny superman on the buildings if you can't see him)

did i mention i'm surrounded by piles of half finished wedding projects but i am sitting here eating popsicles in my jams and watching 'food paradise' on the travel channel for the zillionth time? what is my deal?

Monday, March 22, 2010

I'm back, baby

I don't know if any of you watch Futurama but I am saying the above title in my head just like Bender would. After a weekend filled with decidedly non-wedding activities like:

*baking cookies...vegan cookies since I have a plethora of ripe bananas and no butter and well because frankly they are a super delicious...try these or these)
*planting (indoor starter) seeds for spring! (bunch of herbs, various sizes and colors of tomatoes, lettuces, peppers)
*making spice rubs/mixes (i'm sort of a food nut)
*cleaning house ( as much as I hate it, how good does it feel after youre done?!)
* doing tons of laundry!
*reading!

after a nice break and some good talks, I think I am back in business and back on track! Today I ordered golf pencils off ebay to have with the postcards. I don't know if I'm their first customer or what but I got about 5 emails thanking me for buying a $5 box of mini golf pencils. You are welcome! Then I also bought some glassine bags for the favors and am debating on what kraft boxes to buy. I am thinking these:

(image from here)

to make these:

(from this ebay seller)

your thoughts? also, your comments are too sweet! what a nice group of blogger friends!

***also, I gave in and emailed my garden club auntie about flowers. the paper flowers are sitting in a vase in the room mocking me and making fun of me for giving up but I don't care. They are not the boss of me!

sorry!

sorry I haven't posted in awhile. I promise I'll back soon with hopefully good projects, etc to report. i need a little bloggy break to sort some things out. So to tide you over, heres a picture of a dog wearing glasses:

(image via the always awesome hipster puppies)

hope to be back (for real) soon!

ain't that the way, the way it's supposed to be

Alright so heres the deal: kinda having a bummer of a week so not in the best of moods (i am a ridiculously emotional person to begin with...see: last week's post about the office wedding). So not surprisingly, this post is about wedding stress. Well more specifically the crazy things it makes me do like cry, pig out and in general act like a maniac.
So.... as you know, I just bought a new car and this new ride came with a cd player. Now even though I have an ipod I find myself listening to the radio more often than the ipod (not to mention I have the "original" ipod...the big, clunky one thanks to a dad who for years always bought me the newest coolest piece of technology. it has died on me several times but it's still kicking...somewhere in the house...). So the radio means Hall and Oates if I'm lucky (ya thats right I said it...I love them, get over it) or a funny dj if I can't deal with any songs. So on my way out the door this morning, I grabbed two random cd books. On the way in to work, I listened to one of my favorite, favorite albums, In an Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel. It was good like it always is. On the way home, I got caught behind an insane accident so I was just sitting in awful parking lot-like traffic. So I was thumbing through the book and stumbled upon one of my favorite albums when I was high school. Thats right "Losing Streak" by Less than Jake. One of my many high school music phases involved ska. So here I am screaming at the top of my lungs along with "How's my Driving, Doug Hastings?" while sitting in traffic. I am 26, dressed in my work clothes, wearing my thick glasses and driving my Aveo but I might as well be 15, wearing board shorts, a blink 182 shirt and all the plastic jewelry they sell at Hot Topic (or all the jewelry a high school kid working at Dunkin Donuts can afford...which is surprisingly alot) and driving my grand prix. It was totally awesome. And I think to think that maybe I made someone else's day who saw me rockin out and having a blast and smiled to themselves while stuck in traffic after a long day.

So that my friends is the secret: rockin' out. Isn't that always the solution?

jumbled thoughts

I'm having quite a week, folks so bear with me. Let me start by asking: How are you? Thanks so much for reading my little blog. How are your wedding plans going? Mine are slowly chugging along.

Things I've been up to:

I emailed a marshmallow company (I mean, really who does that?) about how far in advance I can order their gourmet marshmallows for wedding s'mores. I think it goes without saying (but here I am saying ti anyways) that they probably think I am a total nut.

(image via plush puffs)

One of the things bumming me out right now has to be the ending of fun ebay packages arriving in the mail. I was spoiled getting packages almost everyday while ordering the flower pins, postcards, accessories and other random wedding guest gifts. Please don't let me me order anything weird just to get mail. Friends don't let friends order tater mitts.

Depending on my week, I'm thinking an IKEA trip is in order for some mason jars and candles. Ocean State for some birdseed. For something like this to frame the main paper flower (or whatever ends up happening) centerpiece:

(image via once wed)

Oh yeah and finish all the other craziness I've started.

Help me.

What the what?????

I got this email from Project Wedding today (usually I think they are pretty good but this?! not so much...):

Should I get Botox?

Should I get Botox?
Crow's Feet be gone! If you have even tiny imperfections that you're not happy with, you may ask yourself, "Should I get Botox?" If you're considering it, here are some important things worth thinking about.

hollywood & new cars

So I got a new car which I am suuuuper psyched about! It was affordable, low mileage, we bought it right down the street from us and its pretty damn cute! Its only an '08 too! Also, the guy who sold it to us looked this guy:

(image from here)

and the finance woman looked like this:

(image from here...she is the coolest! I love her!!!)

We got to meet so many famous people! ha ha. Anyways, I pick the car up on Monday so in Ry's words I should 'drive the crap' out of my old car until then. Seeing as we just bought a new car, we're going to scale back our honeymoon adventures to probably New Hampshire again. You know what? I don't care. NH is fun. All I care about is spending time with my new husband because I love him to pieces.

(image from here...minus the european license plate)

Wish me luck actually getting anything done in this miserable weather! All I want to do is watch crummy tv in a snuggie.

Happy Friday!

I can't get this song out of my head! Now you can all listen to it too!

Makes me want hula hoop dance numbers at the wedding!

P.S. Finished the two bridesladies bouquets...Will post photos soon..
P.P.S. I got my earrings in the mail! (also I am never sure if it is P.S.S or P.P.S. so I googled it and a million answers came up! Good to know I'm not the only one confused!)

wish you were here aka my postcard problems

Now that I've collected almost all the postcards, I am trying to figure out the best way to display them. I am torn between just at people's place settings or have a table like a guest book normally would. Here is what I found from other people's:

(image via style me pretty)
Ok so this person actually used a mailbox. I looked up vintage ones on ebay and everything I wanted was $300+ which is totally crazy.

(image via district weddings)
they kinda look neat spread out since I like alot of the images on the postcards I found. Does anyone else see that it looks like she is writing on the front of a postcard? I want to be like "Hey stop! Turn it over!"

(image from snippet & ink)
this bride had stamped and preaddresseed all the postcards. I think I would be nervous everyone would forget and not send them back to me.

(image from design sponge)
no idea on the delivery system of these. Think I am in love iwth the plate setting though.

P.S. Shout out to bloggers like A Los Angeles Love, Mouse and Anna and the Ring for writing some amazing and eloquent blog posts recently on things I find hard put into words, especially well written ones (perhaps because I'm too busy thinking about wedding mailboxes??? sometimes true....regardless, thank you ladies)

am i the only one??

2 crazy wedding related side effects:

1. the hungry horrors! Anyone else experiencing this? I feel like I can eat nonstop all day (I am trying not too or at the very least eat fruits and veggies as opposed to giant cookies which is what I want to be eating...). I think part of it is because I feel so much pressure to be healthy and lose weight and then I of course need comfort food like one of my favorite 30 Rock quotes: "I'm going to talk to some food about this". Also, since Ry is not eating meat and for some reason that's all I've been eating. Well that is a bit of an exaggeration but I've been eating a lot more than usual. I made a pork loin tonight...for me. I didn't eat the whole thing I swear!

(image from here)

2. crazy emotions. Basically I just feel like my craziness is heightened. Like I was just reading past entries of a blog I just found and like pretty much everyone else, they linked to the youtube clip of the wedding dance that was such a crazy hit last year. Which I watched and started tearing up. Then I made the mistake of watching The Office wedding clip with the wedding dance and actually starting crying. I mean really?!

(image from here)

So basically picture this: me sitting on my couch sewing together fabric flowers eating and crying.

Holy moly.

i'm a wimp

So I wore heels to work today (well boots with heels and no, not these ones. These are just one of the first images that shows up when you google 'crazy ass high heel shoes') and I would just like to say:

Thank god I bought flats for the wedding.

How am I supposed to dance awesomely (i.e. terribly) in heels? Well I guess it would be more of a 'ouch' terrible than a 'me thinking I'm really rocking these moves but not so much' terrible. Also, I don't want to end up on America's Funniest Home Videos or on some You Tube clip titled 'Wedding Bloopers 7' as I trip and fall.

P.S. To anyone rocking heels on the big day, I am very impressed but it makes my feet hurt even thinking about it!

Best. Proposal. Ever.

(other than mine of course. love ya, Ry! I know you'll think this is crazy rad too!)

A Proposal Story: This Adorable Boyfriend Put Himself in an Episode of
Arrested Development! (Seriously!)

If you’re a sucker for a sweet proposal, break out the Kleenex.

0305-amber-and-josh_we.jpg

First, Amber’s side of the story:

Josh had just gotten back from an Olympics-filled weekend in Vancouver with his friends, and we had planned to have a low-key night so I could hear all his hilarious stories about curling matches, being interviewed by foreign reporters, and so on. I thought he was acting a bit strange all day, making comments about how he really thought we should watch an episode or two of Seinfeld or Arrested Development—my two favorite shows—just for fun that night, so it crossed my mind that he seemed to be up to something, maybe even along the lines of a proposal. But then I kept reminding myself that if he were going to propose, we certainly wouldn’t be watching TV and eating takeout for dinner...

((Read the rest here.))

More buying, less crafting

Hooray! This is my last ebay purchase needed for the bouquets! I might even have a couple left over! But that is what tutorials like this are for. I'm working on flowers (fabric and paper) but not really enough to post anything yet so here are some other things I am up to:

1- scheduled fitting for mid-June! (need to buy super crazy corset as I have not been exercising like I should. I have been eating good! well sorta...)
2- just shy of amount of postcards I need to get. Still bidding....
3- need to buy potential vases to check how flowers look in them (then do a demo? to see how it looks?)
4- need to finish stamping bibs
5- need to finish making flowers, need more materials
6- need to finish making garland, need more materials
7- need to (for reals) finish invites; buy stamps, envelopes, etc
8- get started on assembling/buying non-edible parts of favors?

That's all I can think of for now.

Quick question: how come every time I cross an item off my to-do list three show up in its place? I don't like it one bit.

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y....Night!

Last night I went to Michaels and ate amazing thai food. This morning was full of grocery shopping (am I the only one who geeks out grocery shopping? I went to a new store today and was so excited to buy fun new foods!) and going out to eat with my ladies (i.e. my mom and sister and it was Thai food again! Am I the luckiest girl or what?!). Speaking of my sis, before I get into the crafty business, she told me a bunch of her friends read my blog! How fun! So this is a shout-out to Ally, who told me last weekend she likes reading this. Congrats on becoming an auntie!

Also, is everyone else as bad of a proscrastinator as I am? I will clean my house like crazy to avoid starting crafts and I like making crafts. What is wrong with me?!

Alright, let's get down to business. Here are some crafty things I am up to:

I added some bows to the bouquets (thats just one of the two bridesladies bouquets up top but it is the more complete of the two)

I bought some lace to use as "cuffs" for the bouquets to hide the styrofoam base. I like how they came out!

And its finally happening people. I have finally started actually working on the flowers. What what.

Only a bajillion left to make!

Friday, March 5, 2010

Happy Friday!

First off, I have been really bad about posting this week and I apologize. It has been a loooong week. I'm sure some of you can tell by reading my blog that I am a fairly high stress panicky person. It has totally been one of those weeks. So my ridiculousness coupled with very sad news at work and just other goingsons. Needless to say, I am super jazzed its friday! wooooooo! All I want to do this weekend is turn off my phone and sit in my craft room and make crafts. All I want to do today is sit in my pjs and make crafts and eat this:

(image from here...for those of you who do not watch food shows constantly on the travel channel, this is Ben and Jerry's 'Vermonster' which contains 20 scoops of ice cream and various toppings. you can read more on its Wikipedia page!)

I wonder if my work would mind if I wore my velour sweatsuit today?

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

goings-ons

Here is some progress on the bridesladies' bouquets:

Ry asked me today if I had bought all of ebay yet. Not yet but here are some things I did buy/win:

I won about 50 postcards to use for our "guestbook". Looks like I need to find a different reason for the postcard stamp...

Also, inspired by the last post at You are My Fave, here are some things that make me happy and/or make me laugh (we all need this in the midst of wedding crazies):

*Liz Lemon
*my cats (which props to them I was almost late for work today and they woke me up!)
*hilarious radio songs (the other day I said to Ry "apparently I don't need my car fixed because according to the radio it's 1992 and I don't even drive yet...")
*finding new awesome blogs to read!
*reading in general (I am in the middle of this and this and oh yeah this)
*making pretty fancy meals last night (homemade sweet and sour sauce for tofu and broccoli and rice and this!)
*getting a coffee in the morning and taking a sip and realizing its been made perfectly
*things you want...on clearance...in your size
*it will be spring soon!
*our home
*my future hubs

Happy Wednesday everyone! We're halfway there!

Monday, March 1, 2010

a-ha!

Now these cats are more like it...

Take that, tiny cats!
